What we are

Directionally Local is an open-source coding agent harness that runs on hardware you control. The harness, Autopilot, is the core product. It comes with sandboxed subagents (Hotcell), background runs that come back as pull requests, and durable state for Workers apps (Serverless Objects). One command, npm install -g directionallylocal then dl, sets it all up on your own computer or server.

One lineAn open-source coding agent harness with sandboxed subagents, background runs and durable state. Self-hosted, one command.
Short (about 50 words)Directionally Local is an open-source coding agent harness that runs on your own computer or server. Work with it interactively in your terminal, or hand off a task and get a pull request back. Subagents run in sandboxes, your API keys never enter them, and it works with any model provider. One command sets it all up.
Long (about 120 words)Directionally Local is an open-source coding agent harness (Autopilot) plus everything it needs to run on hardware you control. Run npm install -g directionallylocal, then dl. It sets up on your laptop or on your own server over SSH. Inside any GitHub repo, dl opens an agent session that keeps running when you leave; dl run hands off a task that runs in its own sandbox and comes back as a pull request. Subagents and tasks run in Hotcell sandboxes: Docker, Firecracker or Apple Virtualization microVMs. Your real API key never enters a sandbox; each one gets a short-lived, spend-capped token. It works with any provider: OpenRouter, DeepSeek, OpenAI, Ollama and 20+ more. Serverless Objects adds Workers-compatible durable state. MIT and Apache-2.0.
